Nope, not for me

Short as it was, I did not finish it. The hero is a cop, troubled by his childhood. His mother was a first class bitch and emotionally abused and neglected him. Oh yes, she is a prize. He grows up in a wealthy family, step-father and 1/2 sister. The heroine is 7 years younger than him and a super size crush on the 19 year old. Most of us have been there.
Advance to his sister marrying for the second time. The heroine owns a bridal shop and she is planning the wedding. He really wants no part of the event and has not much to do with his "family" for several years. Well, the heroine is determined to make him a part of it all whether he wants to or not. She blackmails him by telling him she will tell all their childhood embarrassing stories to all his friends if he doesn't take part. So he agrees.
Then she starts in on him that he really should talk to his mother. Now, he hasn't talked to the bitch for many years and she has made NO EFFORT to talk to him but yet HE should make the advance. R U KIDDING ME? He owes this bitch NOTHING. From there, she gets him into her shop to "measure" him for a tux. She winds up measuring his crotch in ways I have never heard of until he is ready to go and does. But, she hasn't extracted enough blood from this turnip, so she gets his handcuffs and cuffs him to the wrought iron table in her fitting room. That ended it for me. I was really hoping he would grab her around the throat and strangle her until she gave him the keys.
I have never hated a heroine more than I did this one. Do I plan to get the next book to see how this ends? NOT ON YOUR LIFE. The only thing I liked about this book was the hero! Too bad he didn't just threaten to tell some of her embarrassing moments. What? did she plan to blackmail him for the rest of his life over this juvenile crap? UGH, I really hated this book.

Crammed and lacking

It was okay. The main characters kind of jumped into everything after not seeing each other in so many years. And for someone that was so innocent, she sure gave in awful easy, and for someone who didn't do family or relationships, or love, he gave in awful quick too. It lacked a whole lot for me. It was like cramming a whole childhood crush (on her part) and childhood rejection by family (on his part) turned sexual and emotional love story where family issues are worked out, and he can suddenly love again, into a hundred or so pages. I'm interested in where the author could possibly go from here with the characters, but not interested enough to buy the books.

Nice read

As the book description says this is a prequel novella so what you will get is an introduction of the main characters and to the story. It gives you enough insight into both characters to make you interested to read the book that will follow and does a good job of showing what the story might be.
It is a nice read leaving you at the end with an optimistic feel, even though it is not the actual end of the story.
A few things were a bit over the top for me, and a bit unrealistic, especially when the author describes the thoughts of the main male character. But this is really a matter of personal taste, and if you are a true romance fan, it will not stop you to enjoy the story.
