Inspiring, Beautiful, and Divine!

At the start of the book, the author offers her Words Of Wisdom which really resonated with me. She ended that chapter on a very powerful note "Enlightened love is the connective tissue of existence--a state of being that exists regardless of our opinions of what it ought to be. We live for this kind of love. We work for this kind of love." The book then offers a variety of quotes and phrases of love and wisdom that taps the good of your soul. This heartwarming book took me on a journey of love from the very cover to the final chapter. Love changes everything and it is a powerful thing. This valentines day, treat yourself by getting a copy of this book. Why? Because it is worth the purchase and will leave you feeling inspired and uplifted. I highly recommend it!

I really loved reading this book, it is so inspirational and uplifting. The author said that the book warms the heart and soothes the soul and that is exactly what it does!

I love the quotations that the author has chosen for each section - they are really thought provoking and you definitely feel moved after reading the book.

The book contains life lessons, talks about love and life and really gets you thinking from all angles.

I would recommend this ebook to anyone who wants get inspired, think deeper and learn a few gems about life!

Strange way to publish half a book. If you want to read this I suggest waiting for the sequel and reading them together to get the whole story. Very disappointed in James Patterson.

Like many other reviewers I am an avid Alex Cross fan, having read every single one of his books. When I got to the end of this one I felt cheated because the ending was missing, like someone ripped the final chapters out of the book (which is hard to do on a Kindle). I would have bought the next book anyway; there was no need to leave your faithful readers hanging.

In publishing these novels by an Australian poet as original paperbacks, Simon Pulse combines the slick packaging of series fiction with rich, layered verse reminiscent of works such as Sonya Sones' Stop Pretending (1999). The narrative rotates among several characters, but the primary speaker is Jack, who is 16 at the start of Love, Ghosts, & Facial Hair. Jack is an aspiring poet who falls in love with another soulful teenager, Annabel. Their intense connection, as cerebral as it is lustily sexual, soothes Jack's grief over the loss of his mother seven years earlier, a loss Herrick captures in shifting, raw emotion--from nihilistic bitterness ("They said it was a harmless lump / it wasn't") to brooding melancholy ("There's a ghost in our house / in Mum's / red evening dress"). A Place Like Thi s follows Jack and Annabel on a postgraduation road trip, tapping into a Kerouacian fantasy that will resonate with many teens. This novel lacks the immediacy of the family tragedy found at the heart of Love, focusing instead on the pregnant, 16-year-old daughter of the apple farmer who gives Jack and Annabel a job. Both books, however, speak with sincerity and sensitivity to the "quiet revolution in every family." Billed as "companion novels," this pairing evidently does not represent the beginning of a Jack-and-Annabel franchise, though YAs touched by the couple's sweet, redemptive relationship may wish it were otherwise. A verse novel for teenagers.

This book has been shortlisted for numerous awards in australia, and it's easy to see why. It's an easy-to-read verse novel for teenagers dealing with love, and self-image. This book is highly recommended for anybody who thinks that teenagers can't be excited and motivated by poetry. Well worth reading aloud to school classes. A unique and original novel for young people.

A bit of a letdown

this book is a bit of a letdown after love ghosts and nose hair. i didnt find the characters fresh, instead they were simply 2D cardboard figures. but the story deals with lifes problems, the ups and downs and its an ok book to read. i suggest u borrow it from a library

Do your research first...

Having been a Streisand fan since 1974 it was a most unhappy experience when I received this book from Amazon to find the writer didn't do her research. For example: Barbra did not receive an Oscar nomination for the movie "Nuts as stated, although I wish she had. And Billy Crystal homage to Streisand at The Academy Awards in 1992 was to "Prince of Tides' not Yentl. I would expect any Streisand Fan to know this. The photos are beautiful but any Streisand Fan that doesn't check her facts is just a lazy amateur!

BTW, since writing this review I've returned the book to Amazon. I just couldn't have a Streisand book in my home with inaccurate information.

Inaccurate Info, Lovely Pictures

I was warned that the information in the book would be inaccurate. And, so it is. What's alarming is that the information can be verified by anyone with an internet connection. I could go on with what the incorrect information was, but it would take too long. There's one quote printed that I had to read three times to be sure I was reading it right. On Page Eight, "I don't care what you say about me. Just be sure to spell my name wrong."

Nice read, but doesn't really add anything

Being a huge Streisand fan and mainly a collector of books about her, I had to add this one to my collection. But I must say that this was the first book to really disappoint me. The author makes quite some mistakes a Streisand fan should not make (an Oscar nomination as best actress in Nuts? I wish she was) and while reviewing 'all' her albums, he leaves out One Voice, The Concert, Timeless, Live 2006, while he reviews A Happening In Central Park and Live Concert at the Forum. Also, where are the Greatest Hits compilations? The 1989 and 2002 releases featured new songs. And where are the soundtracks to The Way We Were, The Main Event and Nuts? Nuts is entirely composed by Streisand. And he does review the soundtracks to The Prince of Tides and The Mirror Has Two Faces. Go figure.

And I want to warn others, while some review this book claiming it's a photobook, it isn't!! Not your general photobook that is. Want a photobook? Buy Spada's 'Streisand in the Camera Eye' or better yet Taschen's 'Barbra' (so worth it!!).

Good premise, poor delivery

I kept reading this book, trying to overlook constant, careless errors, in grammar as well as in consistency, since I was curious as to how the story would turn out. I had conflicting expectations because, while the tone of the book toward what we might call the philosophy of THE SECRET led me to expect one result, the genre of the book led me to expect another. Unfortunately, this was not really a case in which an unexpected ending adds value. I did not even really get much of a chance to connect with the characters enough to start cheering for them. In fact, for the most part, the better I knew them, the less I liked them. I was only cheering for one of the minor characters by the end, and he was completely absent from the culmination of the story. Granted, I have been reading some masterful writing recently, in which realistic, flawed characters still capture the reader's heart. But really, as long as there is writing like that out there, why spend time on this crap? My recommendation: Skip it.

far-fetched but fun!

Ashley Lane is beautiful both inside and out, has wonderful friends and a growing career as a graphic designer but her love life leaves something to be desired. Aside from the three year relationship she had right after college, every relationship she's been in has ended before it really got started and she has no idea why or how to fix it. With most of her best friends romantically attached and having just turned 30, Ashley is beginning to think it will never work out for her. She expresses her concerns to her yoga instructor and very close friend, Ray, who recruits her to join him at a seminar on "The Power of Believing in Dreams." Ashley thinks the whole thing is stupid and that you cannot simply manifest something by believing in it, but well-meaning Ray is so over-enthusiastic and won't take no for an answer. During the course of the two day workshop, participants are partnered up and encouraged to put their heart's greatest desires out into the universe. Ashley reluctantly confesses that her greatest desire is to get married and Ray takes it a step further by suggesting she act like she has already found her groom and plan a wedding! Ashley is initially completely opposed to this but when a friend spies her "pretending" to look at wedding invitations, she decides to go along with it and before she knows it, a venue has been chosen, a dream dress purchased and invitations mailed. But where's the groom?

This book should come with a warning that says "Do not attempt this at home!"

I really enjoyed myself while reading this book although I had to suspend reality since if you give it too much thought it is pretty silly. Imagine how difficult it would be to plan a wedding without ever introducing your friends and family to the groom. I had difficulty putting the book down because I needed to know how the heck Ashley was going to get herself out of this mess. She was a likeable main character and I did want her to get her happy ending but sometimes I also wanted to shake her for being so passive. Her friends, especially Jessica, were incredibly annoying at times and while the author managed to make it clear that her friends meant well, they were very bossy and Ashley just let them take over. I absolutely loved Ray although I also wanted to smack him for getting Ashley into this mess in the first place. I enjoyed the development of Ashley's relationship with her family because I really didn't like them at the beginning. Without giving away any spoilers, all's well that ends well but, as warned above, do not attempt this at home because only in a chicklit novel would things be tied up so perfectly.

If you want a fun distraction from everyday life on a rainy day or at the beach, I would recommend Where's the Groom.

Light-Hearted Fun!

After dating (and being dumped by) a string of unsuitable men, Ashley has had enough. As her friends get married and have babies, and she remains no closer to those goals herself, Ashley despairs that she will ever find "the one". When her best friend and Yoga instructor, Ray, convinces her to come along to a New Age workshop about making good things in your life happen, Ashley is reluctant but has nothing to lose, so she goes along. She spends the weekend visualizing what it would be like to have a man in her life who not only loves her, but cherishes her.

The next thing that she knows, Ashley's has left her comfort zone and is planning a wedding to take place in only six weeks time. The catch? Ashley hasn't met the groom yet. As her friends attempt to be supportive about a whirlwind wedding when they haven't even met the groom yet, Ashley finds that her lies about the man that she is supposedly going to marry have gotten out of control. In fact the whole wedding planning process has gotten out of control. As Ashley tries to figure out how she will get out of the mess that she's gotten herself into, Ray convinces her that if she thinks positively, her groom will come in time. But will he?

I definitely enjoyed the plot of Where's the Groom?. Sure, the premise is a little silly, planning a wedding when there's no groom in sight, but sometimes it's fun to suspend your disbelief for a little while and just enjoy a story. I like the fact that the laws of attraction were brought into play in this story. I've always believed that being positive will bring positive things into your life, and in this case I liked that Ashley tried to believe that a suitable groom would come to her if only she focused on bringing him into her life. She wasn't without her share of reluctance, but at least she gave it an attempt!

I did have a few small problems with Where's the Groom?. I really didn't like Ashley's set of friends. Other than one of them they seemed self-centered and pushy, always out to figure out how something could benefit them. They didn't seem like people that I would want to be friends with. I also thought that the dialogue felt forced at times. The voices of the supporting characters often didn't seem authentic. Finally, I didn't like the ending. I thought that there could have been more explanation, or a different choice for an ending altogether. It seemed abrupt to me.

All things considered, Where's the Groom? is an interesting debut from a promising new author. I would just like to see her future books developed a little further, or perhaps professionally edited.

the ultimate early history of Alabama

This book is the long standing authority on early Alabama history. (1819 statehood). Pickett lived during the early days and knew many of the people he wrote of and got much of his information first hand . He has been criticized for a few things but this remains the best of all Alabama ante-bellum histories and a must for any serious student of Alabama history. The original printings of the book are highly collectible.Pickett has been criticized for over romanticizing but it was an exciting and romantic time! Pickett writes with passion about the times as few historians do.
Pickett gives a "birds-eye" view of the state's early history as no other writer has ever done as he knew many of the early settlers, many of the first state politicians, veterans of the Creek and Seminole Indian wars,and gives intimate details of the state's formative years.
I collect and study Alabama history books and consider this #1 to study and to own.

A classic. Great research tool.

If you're interested in the early history of the deep south, you must have this book. It's the oldest and the one all modern authors use as a research base for years from which we know very little. The pioneers, the Indians, the Imperial Powers--all the info is there. Of course, it's antique in writing style, etc. but it's info you'll find nowhere else. This new paperback version is fine and readable.

I see the the last and only review of this book was in 2004. It was actually first introduced around 1850. The author died in 1858 and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Montgomery, Alabama.

This is a HUGE book. It covers the time from before DeSoto until 1819. Primarily it concerns itself with the Indian/White interaction in Alabama and it gives (in my estimation) a fair exposition of both. Pickett doesn't play favorites. He is generous with both. He goes out of his way to be fair at a time when most of what was known was the white version which was obviously colored.

Older folks were raised to believe that all the Indian action happened out west. What we were not told was that at one time, "west" was anything west of Plymouth Landing. As it so happens Alabama has an under reported Indian history as rich as anything you have ever seen in a cowboy movie or book.

If you are one of the eleven or twelve people interested in Alabama and Alabama Indian history you MUST bear down and read this book. Pickett was the first and foremost historian of Alabama, and incidentally Georgia, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Everything else that came later risks being revisionist. This book is THE source. (And he copiously gives his sources, some of which is attainable on the Internet.)
