Nope, not for me

Short as it was, I did not finish it. The hero is a cop, troubled by his childhood. His mother was a first class bitch and emotionally abused and neglected him. Oh yes, she is a prize. He grows up in a wealthy family, step-father and 1/2 sister. The heroine is 7 years younger than him and a super size crush on the 19 year old. Most of us have been there.

Advance to his sister marrying for the second time. The heroine owns a bridal shop and she is planning the wedding. He really wants no part of the event and has not much to do with his "family" for several years. Well, the heroine is determined to make him a part of it all whether he wants to or not. She blackmails him by telling him she will tell all their childhood embarrassing stories to all his friends if he doesn't take part. So he agrees.

Then she starts in on him that he really should talk to his mother. Now, he hasn't talked to the bitch for many years and she has made NO EFFORT to talk to him but yet HE should make the advance. R U KIDDING ME? He owes this bitch NOTHING. From there, she gets him into her shop to "measure" him for a tux. She winds up measuring his crotch in ways I have never heard of until he is ready to go and does. But, she hasn't extracted enough blood from this turnip, so she gets his handcuffs and cuffs him to the wrought iron table in her fitting room. That ended it for me. I was really hoping he would grab her around the throat and strangle her until she gave him the keys.

I have never hated a heroine more than I did this one. Do I plan to get the next book to see how this ends? NOT ON YOUR LIFE. The only thing I liked about this book was the hero! Too bad he didn't just threaten to tell some of her embarrassing moments. What? did she plan to blackmail him for the rest of his life over this juvenile crap? UGH, I really hated this book.

Crammed and lacking

It was okay. The main characters kind of jumped into everything after not seeing each other in so many years. And for someone that was so innocent, she sure gave in awful easy, and for someone who didn't do family or relationships, or love, he gave in awful quick too. It lacked a whole lot for me. It was like cramming a whole childhood crush (on her part) and childhood rejection by family (on his part) turned sexual and emotional love story where family issues are worked out, and he can suddenly love again, into a hundred or so pages. I'm interested in where the author could possibly go from here with the characters, but not interested enough to buy the books.

As the book description says this is a prequel novella so what you will get is an introduction of the main characters and to the story. It gives you enough insight into both characters to make you interested to read the book that will follow and does a good job of showing what the story might be.

It is a nice read leaving you at the end with an optimistic feel, even though it is not the actual end of the story.

A few things were a bit over the top for me, and a bit unrealistic, especially when the author describes the thoughts of the main male character. But this is really a matter of personal taste, and if you are a true romance fan, it will not stop you to enjoy the story.

The name of Stephen M. Ostrander has been honored in the city of Brooklyn as that of a man whose career exemplified a stainless citizenship. The honors have been not those of public favor offered in a citizen's lifetime, nor of memorials after he has passed away, but the monuments of a cherished memory, the recognition of a generous and wholesome personality.

Stephen M. Ostrander was born February 3, 1832, in the city of Brooklyn. He was of Dutch stock, his earliest ancestor in this country being Pieter Ostrander, who came to America in 1659. When Pieter Ostrander reached America with his wife and three children—a son, Pieter Pieterszen,1 and two daughters, Tryutje and Geertje—Peter Stuyvesant was Governor of New Amsterdam, and the settlement on Manhattan Island occupied a small patch of land on the southern point of the land now occupied by the vast metropolis of New York. Settlers had been living on the Brooklyn side of the East River for a[xii] little more than twenty years, and the Indians were still a formidable obstacle to the peace of the struggling young communities. Dutch immigration had not yet been checked by that bloodless conquest of the British, which five years later transformed New Amsterdam from a Dutch to an English colony, and changed its name to New York.

We afterward find Pieter Pieterszen living at Kingston. This second Pieter among the American Ostranders was born at Amsterdam, Holland, in 1650, and before coming to this country with his father had been enrolled as a cadet in the army of the Dutch king. In 1679 he married Rebecca, daughter of William Janszen Traphagen and Joostje Willems Van Northwyck. Among the children from this marriage was Hendrick Ostrander, born at New Hurley, N. Y., in 1693. Hendrick acquired the ownership of two thousand acres of land at Plattskill, which were evenly divided among his ten children. He was "a staunch adherent of the Reformed Dutch Church,"2 and served in the army previous to the Revolution. His marriage to Elizabeth Van Bommel, of Kingston, took place in 1724. His son Christoffer, born and died at Plattskill, was the father of Stephen Ostrander, born at Poughkeepsie in 1769, and afterwards of Pompton Plains and Brunswick, N. J., who[xiii] was an eloquent minister of the Dutch Church. An illustration of the conditions prevailing at this period is offered by the fact that Stephen Ostrander preached in both English and Dutch.

I had the opportunity to interview author Allen Klein on Conversations LIVE recently about the book MOM'S THE WORD and it was as much a delight as the book itself. This is not just a celebration of what mothers have done. It goes into who they are and what thy have contributed when it comes to our lives.

Taking stories from individuals who are respected and easy to recognize Klein has given us a way of seeing that moms and their influence will forever be with us---whether they are still here or not. Some of the quotes are reflective while others are fun and quirky. Celebrate all the Moms in Your Life

In honor of Mothers everywhere this weekend, I wanted to share a delightful little book with you. Even though it doesn't come out for a few weeks yet, you can always preorder it and have it shipped right to your mom and surprise her.

This book will make moms and kids feel appreciated and loved. It will make you laugh and make you cry. There are stories that will warm your heart and quotes that you will want to remember forever. There is even a section devoted to mothers-to-be. What a perfect way to celebrate a new mom in your life, but sharing this book with her. Even Grandmas would love thinking back on their motherhood days.

With a whole section devoted to Mother's Day, one that I found particularly familiar was:

A touching book of many emotions.

I do have to say, as a Mom myself, this book was very well written and I went through emotions from happy to heartwarming and crying sometimes because of the joy some of the book brought, thinking of my own Mother. It even was funny at times and the tears I did shed were mainly of joy and happiness. This book has hit Motherhood right on the head and captures it greatly. It is just one of those books that makes you think of your own Mother and want you put them through, mainly as a child and teenager, as well as what they have sacrificed for you to make sure you had what you needed and they tried to never have you go without things, even if they were not a need, but a want.

I would recommend this book to everyone, because everyone has a Mother or even someone that was a Mother figure for them. I have a Mother, but my Grandmother was also like a Mother to me as well, so I was blessed that I had two great women in my life to guide me, or at least try, down the right path in life. I owe them everything and more.

Not very Cajun, actually

I'm not sure where the author got the idea that these were "Cajun" recipes, but they are about as Cajun as the average cheese curd in Wisconsin. Seriously, recipes for Texas black bean soup, stroganoff, and recommending serving anything with matzo balls?

I'm not Cajun, but I did work for a great Cajun cook for over seven years. I actively studied Cajun food, trying it from many famous restaurants and private cooks over the years. Calling this Cajun is just wrong, just as wrong as adding cayenne pepper to something and claiming that it's Cajun.

If you want to try Cajun food, this isn't going to help you do so. If you want to recreate a dish you tried in Louisiana, this isn't going to help either. This was a huge disappointment.

There are some great Cajun cookbooks out there, mostly hard cover, and I'd recommend trying one of those and forgetting this one.

So, here we go again! Lisa Paxton and her gorgeous partner, Drake Baxter are in a game of beat the clock! Little did they know that hiring a receptionist would change everything!!! To found out, you must read this book!!! Full of twists and turns and laughs that will keep you turning the page. Only when you get to the last page will you finally exhale!!!!

Exciting and full of suspense

Jack be Nimble is the type of story I have great difficulty stopping once I start to read it. There were many things that caught me by surprise. I was really caught up in the world of Lisa and Drake.
As usual Cynthia Melton has created an exciting story, and I will certainly continue reading her works as they come out.

Easy-to-read story for children!

The story, "I Have Two Daddies" by Lynn Calvin, is an easy-to-read story explaining the parallels of the earthly and heavenly fathers. It is written in a style that young children who are beginning their Christian journey can understand. It also reassures children who do not have an earthly father that someone cares for them. Small children who must have the story read to them will have no problem remembering line for line after several readings so that when they are "reading" alone, they know exactly what each page says. I would recommend this book for all young children.

THIS BOOK IS AN EXCELLENT READ FOR KIDS. LYNN CALVIN HAS SET THE BAR FOR CHILDREN THAT HAVE AND DON"T HAVE BIOLOGICAL DADS TO UNDERSTAND THAT GOD WILL BE A FATHER TO THEM REGARDLESS OF THEIR CIRCUMSTANCES OR SITUATION. THE ILLUSTRATIONS WERE BRIGHT AND VIVID! I WOULD RECCOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ALL CHILDREN!

Great Book!!! Encouraging story for kids!

As one who was raised by a single mom, I know the book, "I Have Two Daddies" will be a source of encouragement to the child who had been abandoned by his or her father. The truth taught in this book has been my source of comfort and joy since the time I became a Christian. Though my earthly father did not love and care for me and my siblings, our Heavenly Father has always been there for us! My 11 and 14 year old daughters read this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks Lynn Calvin for your unique book!

Novella "Going Dark" is an exciting prequel to the first book in a new series "Blackout" by author Robison Wells.

It starts out quickly and the momentum doesn't let up. Protagonist Krezi (Lucretia) is in an auto accident, gets a concussion and a broken nose and then starts running a high fever. And paranormal events spiral out of control after that.

Good character development for such a short story and I'm anxious to see where the author takes the story in Blackout.

An Action-Packed Prequel

"Going Dark" the eye-opening prequel to "Blackout" begins with a car accident that leaves Krezi (Lucretia) Torreón with a concussion and an unexplainable high fever. With a temperature that would kill a person Krezi expels a burst of energy that explodes into flames or shatters objects. She must learn to contain it before her secret is discovered by the wrong people, endangering her home, family and life.

Set in Las Vegas Nevada the novella is fast-paced and action-packed with a car crash, burning house and terrorist attack. A teaser to "Blackout" the reader is given a snapshot into the rise of a Lambda, a teen with an extraordinary power and to the terrorism that will undermine the fabric of society in America. The momentum never stops until it ends in a cliff-hanger that begs you to read the full length novel.

The characters for a short story are memorable especially Krezi who is filled with confusion, fear and panic when her family home burns down and a burst of light shatters her classroom at school. But determined and curious she soon discovers the source of a paranormal ability that will change her life forever.

Like all novellas it's short in character and plot development, but is an interesting introduction to Robison Wells chilling novel "Blackout."

Too Short

I love this author and her books very much. She is one of my favorites. However this short story is even more short than most of these digital short stories and $1.99 made me feel a little bit taken. .99 cents would have been a more reasonable price for what we get here. It's been over a year since I read "Perfect Ruin" and this story doesn't even feature one of the main characters. Prior to this being release, most fans seemed to hope this would be a prequel about Lex, instead it features Daphne. And honestly, before it starts, the story is over. It added nothing, as far as I can tell, to the series.

This story gave a nice glimpse into life when Daphne was alive. It was interesting to see her with Judas but I felt that the short length limited how well we were able to get to know Daphne and Judas as he was with his betrothed.
