This Story Pulled Me In

Lauren Baker runs a home for three orphaned, at-risk boys. She had seen the heart-breaking effects of orphans being disappointed over and over again from her childhood friend, and she vowed to do everything she could to prevent that, and, with God’s help, she would.
Pete Long moved in next-door to the home for orphaned boys, but he saw his uncle’s family split apart by taking in an adopted son. He didn't want to have anything to do with that kind of situation and told the home to keep the boys off his property. However, one talented little boy manages to work on him. When he begins to care for Lauren, he knows his heart is at risk, because she’s told him how much her job means to her. How can two people with such different beliefs ever come to an understanding, even if they both do rely on God?
I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was well-written, and it pulled me in. The ending was especially well-done.

5 stars: Forever in My Heart by Linda Ford

Laureen runs a group home for foster children, and is passionate about not letting any of her kids down; she finds love with her new neighbor, Pete, but he is strongly against adopting.
Best bits: Laureen is bubbly and energetic, full of life and fun, and overflowing with love for the boys she cares for. Pete is solid and steady, but enjoys silliness and laughter as well. They balance each other well. I also appreciate how well the boys respond to Pete when he treats them with respect, especially when Pete is so nonchalant about it, not realizing how wonderful he relates to them. I don't remember any typos, and the writing had a life and vigor that I found charming. Extremely enjoyable. Lots of evidence of living faith in this one. Laureen prays and seeks direction from God, and then sticks to what she knows God wants, even when it is hard and painful. Pete persists in praying for his own will to be done for quite a while, but then realizes his mistake, recognizes God's adoption of him, and hastens to make things right.
Issues: I’m not completely sure why Pete so firmly translates his one negative experience with adoption into such a rigid anti-adoption stance, especially when he knows and loves both Laureen and Kyler.

Very good reading

This was a good book which I hated to put down. Lauren and Pete fell in love. They had a lot of things to work through. This story showed two views on how two people felt about adopting older children. Pete didn't feel he could accept the adoption of an older child. Lauren wanted to adopt Kyler who was almost six. They had to work through this problem before they could get married. I believe you will enjoy this book and how it works out. I loved the story.
