Review
"Another fast paced page turner that will keep you glued to the couch...by an author who continues to standout in the increasingly crowded thriller field."―Examiner.com on The Forgotten

"Baldacci is a master when it comes to writing about small-town conspiracies and a lone hero who fights against all odds to clean up corruption. The narrative moves slowly, so the reader has a chance to solve the case along with Puller. It might seem straightforward, but the final reveal will surprise even hardcore thriller junkies."―The Washington Post on The Forgotten

"The Innocent is Baldacci at his absolute best...Baldacci provides the reader a non-stop pulse pounding ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat into the wee hours of the morning...Five Stars."―Examiner.com

"This book is a definite one-day, 'edge-of-your-chair' read, with an ending that is a complete surprise. One of the best Baldacci's since Absolute Power, this is one that will have all suspense readers enthralled."―Suspense Magazine on The Innocent

"Readers expect excitement and intrigue in David Baldacci's books, and Zero Day is no exception...As Baldacci's new hero narrowly escapes countless close calls, the pairing of the author's imagination and knowledge create a wild ride for the reader. Puller is gutsy, brash and likable. Best of all, he survives to reappear in the next book of this new series."―The Free-Lance Star on Zero Day

Another Bestseller by Baldacci
By Suncoast
Once again David Baldacci shows that he is a consummate author of popular thrillers in a page-turning adventure featuring two of his most popular characters, Sean King and Michelle Maxwell - former Secret Service agents turned private investigators. This book will undoubtedly become a pre-Christmas bestseller.

King and Maxwell are driving through a storm when they nearly hit a teenage boy, Tyler Wingo, wandering the highway in the dark. They find that he has fled his nearby home after hearing that his father has been killed in Afghanistan. When they take him home it is clear that Tyler is on his own as there is no love lost with his stepmother.

Next day Tyler contacts them directly and hires them to find out more about his father's death. He tells them he is concerned because he has been told by the Army that there will be no casket as his father's remains are not recognisable. What Tyler doesn't tell them is that he has received a carefully worded email with a coded message from his father - sent after the time he was said to have been killed.

King and Maxwell start to uncover an international incident that begins with the loss of an unknown cargo of 4,800 lbs (what could this be?) in a remote part of Afghanistan and the disappearance of Tyler's father. They discover a cover-up that implicates the Pentagon and even higher and become part of a chase to find Tyler's father, uncover the truth and the conspirators. The chase will put their lives at risk many times and claim many lives before it ends in a deadly showdown .

In this book Baldacci explores the special relationship between Sean and Michelle, and Sean's reaction when she was in hospital with serious gunshot wounds from their last adventure. This time Baldacci also introduces us to Sean's ex-wife Dana, in a more than cameo role as the wife of a 2 star General at the Pentagon. He explores Sean and Dana's past life and their relationship when they meet again.

One of David Baldacci's great strengths is his ability to create and ring the changes between a number of compelling characters (including The Camel Club, John Puller, and my recent favourite, Will Robie). It is great to see the return of King and Maxwell after a break of a couple of years. Their adventures with the Secret Service and as private investigators have been some of Baldacci's most successful thrillers over the last 10 years.

PS. I was browsing next year's pre-orders on Amazon recently and was excited to find that Will Robie (recently featured in "The Hit") will be back at the end of April 2014 in The Target.

"King and Maxwell" is a good read with well-defined characters
By Mike Billington
Sean King and Michelle Maxwell are two of my favorite fictional private detectives.
I like the fact they are former Secret Service agents; the fact that - of the two - Maxwell is the one more likely to throw a punch or burgle a house; that King is a lawyer who'd rather be a private eye than spend his time arguing legal issues in a courtroom; and that - despite serious bumps in their careers - they each rose above their failures and got on with their lives.
In this story, readers are treated to an intriguing case with a villain that they can almost sympathize with: A man who lost his family because of the down-and-dirty political machinations of the Reagan White House during the Iran-Contra scandal.
The plot revolves around a fortune - 1 billion Euros to be exact - that was hijacked in Afghanistan when a secret wartime mission went pear shaped. Who stole the money is almost not as important as why it was stolen, however.
King and Maxwell enter the case almost by accident when, as they are driving back to Washington one night, they see a young boy running through the rain carrying a pistol. When they hear his story they decide to help and, as the Bard once said, therein hangs a tale.
Author David Baldacci's narrative races along just above the speed limit: Not so fast that you miss important points but faster than the average whodunit. The plot is sufficiently complex that it can keep readers guessing and the secondary characters are well fleshed out. Baldacci's writing is a little - sometimes a lot - stilted and his use of words is not always on point, however. For example, at one point a character "opines" that the military's cyber-security experts would know if the Pentagon's computers have been hacked. That's not an opinion, however, because he's stating it as fact and, thus, "opined" is not used correctly in this instance. Call me old fashioned - and I am - but "said" would have been a much better word choice.
That said, this is a very good read with some well-defined characters, and a plot that has enough twists to make it interesting. Recommended for King and Maxwell fans and those who don't mind a little politics injected into their mystery novels.

Still I loved this series of King and Maxwell
By Robert Saben
Typical with Baldacci, he hits some slow spots by tell how a room looks or what the character is wearing, when that information makes no difference in the story. Still I loved this series of King and Maxwell, good mystery with a distance love interest.
