I generally enjoy children's books of folk tales from foreign lands & to have artwork provided as well made it extra special!

I thought I'd sample this book based upon the intriguing list of illustrations provided. and after having selected several I paged forward and began reading. The illustration "A young girl came from the field, riding on a water-buffalo" found in the story "The Young Head of the Family" was easily the best paired, and the story itself of the wily girl who was able to outwit even the Mandarin ranked as one of my favorites. "A Wife's Revenge" had a most interesting title together with an appropriate illustration called "The lotus pool" which became the site of where her second husband laughed at her prodding the toads until she eventually made the connection of his laughter and what become of her first husband. Funniest tale by far was "A Fortuitous Application" tho illustration of "A beggar and his blind wife" had not a thing to do with how the lady was able to thwart two robbers by a use of a chance bit of poetry and a case of the fleas. Overall, I found these to be some clever, well-constructed tales and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
